Where has the summer gone?

I know we hear that a lot, but this year I really feel that way. I guess I got a little too busy this summer to blog. We still have a few weeks though - school starts Sept. 1. Registration for Kindergarten is next week, but we already have the bus schedule and I'm still trying to find someone we know who has someone on the same bus as Josie. At least she knows how to do it now that she had summer school, but I would still feel better if she had a "buddy" with her. Oh well...Little Miss Independent can show her independence I guess. Anyway, here's a re-cap of what our summer consisted of so far:
  • Visitors from Iowa, a couple times
  • Swimming at the local acquatics center - A LOT.
  • T-ball - in the back yard and part of the Holmen Park and Rec team. Me being the Head Coach of Josie's 5-6 year old team. We rocked!
  • Travel: A couple quick trips to Iowa
  • Illness: Me getting bronchoitis and fever for a week
  • Summer School - Josie attended a summer school program through her school for incoming Kindergarteners for two weeks (3 hours a day). It teaches them "the ropes" as Kindergartners - the bus proecess, lunch process, classrooms, lockers, recess, rules, learned her way around the school, etc. It wasn't something that I signed her up for during registration time for it, but after talking to other parents and teachers, they talked me into it. I was a month after deadline for registering and they let her in. I'm glad I did, I don't regret it at all.
  • Home Improvement Projects: We remodeled our bathroom.
  • Riding bikes - A.J. learned to ride a bike recently!!! Yay! He still needs more practice and a bike that fits him, but he at least learned how to do it.
  • Milestones: Besides learning to ride a bike, A.J. took a big step this summer and decided to try to "swim" alone (or whatever you call is when someone doesn't know how to swim). He actually went off on his own in the swimming pool (where he could touch) and jumped off the side and into the water, even getting his head under. I liked not having a kid attached to my hip in the pool. Now he's ready for swimming lessons!
Stay tuned for pictures of some of these events. I haven't had time to download them. I will also have some pictures of Irishfest this weekend!!
